Medved Running and Walking Outfitters was established in 1984 by Morris Medved.  Morris, an avid runner since the late 1960s, wanted to merge his love of running with his background in retailing.  Prior to opening the store, Morris had held positions with some of the finest men's specialty stores of their time;  including the Boston Store in Milwaukee, Maurice L. Rothschild also located in Milwaukee and Dayton Company in Minneapolis.  Morris came to Rochester in 1968 as an executive with Hickey Freeman, prior to opening the store.

In establishing the philosophy for the store, Morris wanted Medved Running and Walking Outfitters to be a place where all people interested in fitness and running would be comfortable.  Whether you are just trying running for the first time or race every weekend, we want you to feel welcomed.  Whether you are interested in footwear, clothing, foot inserts or socks, we want to ensure that you are fit in the right size.  Need some guidance in choosing your workout footwear, apparel or accessories, we can provide.  Want to look around and be left alone?  That's ok too. 

Over the years, our merchandise assortment has grown beyond our running roots.  Besides a large selection of running footwear, apparel and accessories, we carry cross training shoes, walking shoes, comfort shoes, sandals, hiking boots, tennis shoes and snow shoes.  Footwear brands include:  Nike, Asics, New Balance, Saucony, Brooks, Mizuno, Adidas, Pearl Izumi, Merrell, Keen, Teva, Chaco, Ecco, Dansko, Clarks, Birkenstock, Born, Timberland, Montrail, Vasque and Inov-8. 

On the clothing side, besides great active clothing suitable for running, hiking, walking and travel (from Nike, Under Armour, Suguoi, Pearl Izumi, Hind, SportHill, Asics, Adidas, New Balance, Insport and Brooks; just to name a few), we also have a nice selection of casual and lifestyle apparel from manufacturers such as Patagonia, Royal Robbins, Mountain Hardwear, Life is Good and Kavu.   

We also offer a large selection of accessories to meet your needs.  From footwear insets, to socks, to snowshoes, to reflective vests, hats and gloves we have what you need to enjoy your favorite activity just a little bit more.
