SharkBytes aims to improve shark and human relations by educating the public regarding shark related incidents and to increase awareness on the depopulation of sharks around the world.
Shark Finning is an increasingly alarming problem around the world. Every day over 200,000 sharks are killed for the sole purpose of their fins. Once the fin has been cut off the shark, the carcass is then discarded back into the sea. At this stage the shark is usually still alive. It then drowns and sinks to the ocean floor. This practice has caused most shark species populations to decline by 70, 80 and even 90%. Some scientists say that if something doesn’t change soon sharks could be extinct in as little as 10 years! SharkBytes is committed to raising awareness of this ongoing problem through our Save Sharks Blog. All proceeds are going towards shark awareness. Thank you for your support!
Both races will feature ten year age groups. Age group winners will receive gift certificates from Medved Running and Walking Outfitters.
Packet pickup for both races will be held at Medved on Saturday, July 21nd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
