Nestled in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, the tiny town of Savannah — home to a population of just over 1,700 year-round residents — is set to play host to the Montezuma Half Marathon & 5K in late June this year. A race that will take runners along country roads and the grassy trails into the Howland Island Unit of the Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area (about 1/3 of the race course).
This race will benefit the important work and efforts of the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. The Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex support habitat restoration & public use at The Montezuma Wetlands Complex in upstate New York.
The Half Marathon course will combine country roads (2/3) and a wildnerness trail (1/3) though Howland Island’s Wildlife Refuge Area. The race will start and finish at the beautiful Montezuma Aububon Center affectionately known in the region as “The MAC”
