Medved Madness Recap
The second annual Medved Madness is now in the books and one word can sum up the event, muddy. A nice downpour the day before made this already challenging course a nice muddy playground for those brave souls who ventured out to Mendon Ponds on Sunday May 4th.
Partly sunny skies and perfect running temperatures (mid 50s) greeted the participants. Prior to the start there was plenty of strategizing as to which team member would run which leg of the relay. For the solo runners, the decision was easy; just keep going. After receiving their pre race instructions from Mort Nace, the runners were off.
The first to cross the finish line was our area's top trail runner, Jeff Beck, who ran the course in a time of 1:35:16, a very impressive time indeed. Alan Powers was the next across the finish line with a time of 1:43:31, followed by our two time female champion Michelle Weiler 1:52:05.
The second female to cross the finish line was Karen Howe in a time of 2:02:59. Let's give a big Rochester welcome to Karen, who along with her husband are recent arrivals to our fine area. Rounding out the top three was Laura Williams (2:13:28). Click here for Madness Solo Race Results.
On the relay side the top female team was the Loony Lins (2:00:21), featuring Belinda O'Brien, Linda Drinkwater and Carolyn Smith Hannah. Nice job you "Lins". The Checkers II Team (1:53:50) with Dave Sada, Jim Figler and Heman Van Leewen were the top men's team. The fastest team overall was the co ed team of Checkers AC with Amy Fakterowitz, Don Seitz and Jerry Irving (1:42:57).
New this year was a kids trail race. This non competitive event proved to be a big hit, with many parents running with their kids and having a great time. The smiles on everyone's faces were certainly a sight to be seen.
Thanks to master minds of this event, our own Greg Crego, Mort Nace and Dan Andrus for all the work they put into this event. Thanks to our caterer Cozy Kitchen for making the delicious post race feast and to our friends at PCR Timing for another job well done. Finally, thanks to our volunteers, many of the Medved staff for getting up early and helping with registration, trail marshalling, picking up and all the little stuff that makes an event happen.
Eric Metzler of All Terrain Photography was out on the course and took some really nice photographs at the race, including the two in this article. Click here to enjoy his work.
